Setting up approvers

Leave Dates allows you to configure approvers for departments or employees.

The 'Approver' Role

Before you're able to set someone to act as an approver, first an employee must be given the 'Approver' permissions.

  1. Go to the Settings > Employees page.
  2. Click the approver's name to edit their profile.
  3. Tick the Approver role (as shown below) on the permissions tab
  4. Save the changes

Now the employee has the approver role, so that they can be assigned as approvers for departments or employees.

Department approvers

We recommend managing approvers for departments, and only assign approvers to employees when it's an exception to what is configured on the department. In this way, it's easier to make changes.

  1. Go to the Settings > Departments page.
  2. Click the department to edit.
  3. Use the Approver(s) dropdown to select who should approve leave. You can select multiple approvers, but only 1 approval is required per request.
  4. Save the changes

Employee approvers

Setting up an approver for an employee will override the department approver for that employee.

  1. Go to the Settings > Employees page.
  2. Click the employee to edit.
  3. Untick the Use default box, to override the approver as set in the department (only for this employee)
  4. Use the Approver(s) dropdown to select who should approve leave. You can select multiple approvers.
  5. Save the changes

Leaving the Approver(s) field blank in the employee profile will result in the department approver being used. If both the employee and department approver are blank, then company admins will become the approver.

Notifications

Notifications will be sent to approvers for new leave requests by:

  • Email
  • Shown in the Leave Dates website when logged in
  • Push notification to the mobile app (if installed)

Additional non-approvers can also be notified of new requests by adding them to the Followers field. More info
